Consul General Traces the History of Relations between the U.S. and China for Undergraduates at SWUFE: On October 27, 2009, Consul General David E. Brown delivered a speech about the 30th anniversary of the normalization of bilateral relations between the United States and China to more than 200 undergraduate students at the Southwest University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu.(Full text)

 

Consular Officer Visits Chongqing’s Nankai High School to Discuss Study in the U.S.:  October 19, 2009 – Consular Outreach Officer Dan McCandless spoke to approximately 200 students on October 19 at Nankai High School, where he shared information about how to pursue undergraduate and graduate study in the United States and clarified misunderstandings about applying for student visas.(Full text)

Beijing's Regional Medical Officer Discusses H1N1 with American Citizens at Chengdu Town Hall: On Friday, October 16, Beijing's Regional Medical Officer, Dr. Wayne F. Quillin, met with about 25 American Citizens at a town hall meeting in Chengdu to discuss H1N1 prevention and care.  Dr. Quillin's advice was simple - remember what your mother taught you, and you can help prevent the spread and transmission of H1N1.(Full text)

Washington Wizards Stop in Chengdu during 30th Anniversary Tour to China: September  12 -- From September 5-15, 2009, current and former members of the National Basketball Association (NBA) team the Washington Wizards visited China to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and China and to commemorate the anniversary of their first historic visit to China in 1979 at the invitation of Deng Xiaoping. Ambassador Huntsman Visits Chengdu to Swear-In 15th Group of U.S.-China Friendship Volunteers: August 28 – Ambassador Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., in his first trip out of Beijing after his arrival to China, traveled to Chengdu to swear in the 15th group of U.S. Peace Corps Volunteers who will become U.S.-China Friendship Volunteers.(Full text)
